During our Literacy time at school the children are learning to self select
books. We are working on Reading to Self and Reading with a Buddy.
Every day we practice increasing our reading stamina. Each morning
your child chooses books to bring home. As you practice daily at home,
there are things you can do to help your child grow as a reader. Follow
the link to learn some things you should do while reading to your child.
I found this cute idea on Pinterest! It looks like a fun way to use letter tiles
to practice making words (spelling). In one "yard" of the plate there are
vowels and in the other there are consonant letter tiles. The child builds a
word using letter tiles then uses the chicken to "chicken scratch" the words
into Cream of Wheat or grits. You could try this at home when working on
sight words or rhyming word families such as cat, fat, hat, etc. During
Literacy time at school the children will practice Word Works as a part of
Daily 5. I will share other ideas for practice at home soon.
